Conniston Middle School is committed to providing an environment that promotes academic and healthy social-personal development for all students. Our dress code policy is designed to facilitate this process while affording students flexibility of style and expression. It is generally accepted that cleanliness, good grooming and appropriate dress are necessary to reduce distractions, promote health and provide a productive learning atmosphere. Extremes in dress and personal appearance which tend to cause distraction or pose safety concerns cannot be permitted at school.
Backpacks: Conniston will provide a mesh backpack for each student. Students must use a mesh or clear backpack. Replacement mesh backpacks will be sold in the main office.
Shirts
- Collared golf shirt, any solid color (should have 3-4 buttons)
- Button down “dress shirts” in any color, including plaids or stripes
- Official Conniston t-shirts (can be bought throughout the school year online and in the main office)
- College/University t-shirts
- AVID t-shirts (can be bought through the AVID Department)
- Jackets and sweaters of any color (hoods must be off head for safety)
- NO tank tops, spaghetti straps, sleeveless shirts, crop tops, non-Conniston t-shirts, or professional sports t-shirts. Shirts must not have designs or images
Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Dresses
- “Dockers” style pants, Joggers, Sweatpants, or Jeans of solid color. No camouflage pants (Must be worn at the waist. No holes, frays or slits.)
- Dress or basketball shorts at or below the knee in any color. (Must be worn at the waist. No holes, frays or slits.)
- Skirts or dresses up to 2 inches above the knee.
- NO styles should be more than 2 inches above the knee, pajamas, stretch, or leggings.
Shoes
- Closed-toe with back heel. Crocs may be worn with a strap on the heel of foot.
- NO slides, sandals, backless shoes, house slippers or bare feet.
P.E. Uniform (required for students in P.E. class)
- T-Shirt and elastic waistband shorts sold by P.E. Dept. ($20.00)
- Athletic Shoes/Sneakers
- Lock rental for locker ($5.00)
Not Permitted: headphones, sunglasses, shower/hair caps/bonnets, hair rollers, bandannas, hats, hoods, or headgear. Clothing, jewelry, or buttons with words, phrases, symbols, styles, pictures or insignia which are obscene, profane, suggestive, racist, religiously or sexually offensive, related to drugs or alcohol use, depict violence, are gang related, or that deface or alter national emblems. In addition, large heavy metal rings, chains, wristbands, headbands, or belts with studs that may pose a safety hazard. No beads of any kind, including rosaries, may be worn as necklaces. Jackets or sweaters cannot be worn to cover inappropriate clothing. (These items will be confiscated immediately to be picked up by a parent, and the student will be subject to disciplinary consequences. Conniston’s administration determines what is distracting or unacceptable).
