MacBeach Explorations
First started in 2015, MacArthur Beach Explorations is an environmental education program that immerses students in experiential learning opportunities within our local natural ecosystem and provides them with “real-world” connections to the life and environmental science concepts that they are studying in the classroom. The goal of this program is to provide elementary and middle school students from Title 1 schools with quality field experience at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. After participating in the teacher professional development session over the summer, teachers are provided bus transportation and classroom materials to implement one of the 10 STEM-focused Explorations programs both in their classroom and at the park. -
Growing Beyond Earth
The Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) Project is a component of the Fairchild Challenge developed in partnership with NASA. It consists of in-classroom botany experiments that help NASA learn more about the optimal growing conditions of plants that can be used aboard the International Space Station (ISS). GBE is unique in its focus on real scientific research and its relevance to NASA mission planning. In the future, fresh vegetables may be an important part of the astronaut's diet during long-duration missions beyond Earth's orbit. To learn more, click HERE.
