Cross Country
There are a few things that you need to do before your student-athlete can join the team.
- You must complete an athletic packet and upload it to aktivate.com link
- Your student-athlete must have running shoes. We suggest going to Runner’s Edge running store (3195 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33431) and get fitted for the correct footwear rather than going to Dick’s Sporting Goods or ordering online. Please mention Spanish River Cross Country team and Runner’s Edge will provide you with a discount of 15-20%. No brand of shoes is better than the others. Runner’s Edge employees are trained to fit you for the right shoe and brand for your foot and shoe wear patterns. You don’t have to break the bank for a good pair of running shoes.
- Our team is a no-cut sport. So long as your student-athlete attends practice regularly and has a good attitude, they will have the opportunity to compete at most of the local cross country meets.
Season information
Cross Country season runs from August until November (for Junior Varsity athletes, the season will end in late October). Practices, team dinners, and meets are all important. Student-athletes and families must provide their own transportation to meets. Carpooling is highly recommended.Travel
Varsity runners will be traveling to select meets during the season. We currently have one out-of-state meet scheduled and athletes will be responsible for airfare and some meals.Attendance
Practice is mandatory if you want to be on the team. If you are not going to be at practice, you must notify a coach via text or Remind app prior to the practice with an explanation as to the reason for your absence. You will then be notified by a coach as to whether it will be considered an excused or unexcused absence. Three (3) unexcused absences will result in suspension or dismissal from the team. To not miss practice, schedule other activities including haircuts, tutoring, medical appointments, and appointments of any other kind after practice. Great student-athletes are those who learn to be good time managers to balance academics and athletics. Be smart about the use of your time.Parent Meeting
8/18 at 6:45 pm we will have a parent meeting at South County Regional Park, Pond Apple Pavilion (this is a new change).Contact Coach Doug Horn for more information.
