Safe and Supportive Environments (SSE) is intended to increase school connectedness for all students, including LGBTQ+ students. SDPBC currently uses 2 strategies to accomplish this initiative: We’re ALL In Initiative and GSA Clubs. Additionally, SDPBC has resources in the Department of Safe Schools, Skills for Life Long Learning, Mental and Behavioral Health and others. Our goal is for every student to feel safe and supported at all times in an inclusive school culture per school board policy.
In addition to Federal and State Law protections, SDPBC Board Policy 5.001 - Protecting Students from Discrimination and Harassment “does not condone discrimination and harassment against any of its students or applicants for admission for any reason including, but not limited to, gender expression and/or gender identity, race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, marital status, ancestry, ethnicity, gender, linguistic preference, political beliefs, sexual orientation, or social/family background in its education programs or admissions to education programs and therefore prohibits such discrimination against, or harassment of, any student by any Board member, District employee, consultant, contractor, agent, visitor, volunteer, student, or other person in the school or outside the school at school-sponsored events, on school buses, and at training facilities or training programs sponsored by the District.” Additionally, the SDPBC Board Policy 5.002 - Protecting Students from Bullying and Harassment and the SDPBC Board Policy 1.0941 - Equity Policy also outline protections for our diverse students and staff.
