Exceeding USDA standards and setting new bars for better nutrition!
We are proud that the School District of Palm Beach County is a leader in establishing School Food Service standards that exceed USDA requirements. We work diligently with food manufacturers to remove artificial dyes and high fructose corn syrup from many our food items, often resulting in special formulations specifically made for our District. When new formulations are not possible, we work to replace those items with equal substitutions in the market that contain all natural ingredients. And we no longer accept new items into our school nutrition program that contain artificial dyes or high fructose corn syrup.
In keeping with our mission to serve meals that benefit the health and wellness of our students, we also focus on procuring protein items that meet the standards for No Antibiotic Ever (NAE), Certified Responsible Antibiotic Use (CRAU), and Nitrate Free food items.
