What is Dual Enrollment?

  • Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to take postsecondary coursework (college courses at a college/university) and simultaneously earn credit toward a high school diploma, a career certificate, an associate or baccalaureate degree at a Florida public or eligible private institution.

Palm Beach County has an agreement with Palm Beach State College, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Florida for dual enrollment. Dual enrolling from a particular school does not give a student an advantage over others in college admission at the school they choose to dual enroll with so it is recommended to participate at any school that offers the best classes for the student.

Students must meet eligibility requirements in order to participate in the dual enrollment program and successfully complete their classes to remain in the program.

Enrolllment

  • As Palm Beach State is our most common school for dual enrollment, please see additional information below for the enrollment/registration process.

Before considering dual enrollment, discuss with your family if you are ready for this!
Students need to complete this step by step guide as a practice for the independent piece that college courses demand. This registration process is an example of what they will be expected to do independently at the college. If they are reliant on their counselor or their parents to complete this registration process, perhaps they are not ready to be a college dual enrollment student. Expectations will be higher for students in their college classes.

    Previously Enrolled

If you have previously completed a dual enrollment course, the only document your counselor will need from you is the Dual Enrollment Authorization Form: Palm Beach State College Dual Enrollment Authorization Form. Please fill out the form completely. Please list the course(s) you plan to take and you and parent/guardian must sign before sending the form to your counselor for approval. The form can be electronically signed (cannot be typed, must be a signature). Digital signatures are acceptable. Your counselor will sign the form and return to you.

***Make sure that you choose class(es) that you are qualified to take according to your test scores and the prerequisites for the course. Additionally, make sure you are not taking courses that would duplicate current or previous AICE, AP or IB college courses. You can check here to compare your test scores to see which classes they would be equivalent to at PBSC: Class Credit by Examination
It would be recommended to check the university you plan to attend in the future for their credit by examination list to confirm the credit will transfer appropriately.

    • You can look up each class to make sure you’ve met the prerequisites here: Palm Beach State College - Courses
    • We recommend that you take classes that are either FULL TERM or 12 WEEKS. You can check to see when classes are offered once you’ve selected options to ensure there are seats available and class times that work with your schedule: Student Course Search

Please note the times of the classes you are selecting and make sure they do not interfere with your current WTDHS school schedule. WTDHS recommends registering for a course after 3:15 pm Mondays - Fridays during the school year.  There will be times that the school bell schedule will be adjusted at Dwyer and you may not be dismissed at your regular time.

Step 5: First Time Dual Enrollment Student Authorization Form

Students new to the dual enrollment program need their Dual Enrollment Authorization Form, GPA verification, applicable ACT, PERT, SAT and/or PSAT scores. Final Step for Submitting documents to PBSC: Student Paperwork submission to PBSC

    • From your Workday homejpage, click the "Student Requests" application
    • Under Requests, select Create Request
    • Under Request Type, choose Dual Enrollment Authorization Request

How can you check the status of the authorization form submission?
Authorization requests are processed in the order of which they are received. Once processed, you will receive an email from PBSC and you will be able to officially register for your course. If the form is denied, please double-check that all documents (test scores, gpa proof, canvas orientation course completed, AICE or AP score results) have been submitted before resubmitting, or verify that you have the necessary test scores to meet eligibility.

Class Registration

  • Once you have completed the previous steps, typically within 2-7 business days, PBSC will email your PBSC email account to inform you that you have been approved to register for your courses. Send a copy via email of your registered class schedule to your school counselor. Remember, the class must be taken after 3:15 pm if it is a live in person class or live online class.
