Can I continue my health benefits after I've retired?
As a retiree of the School District of Palm Beach County, you are eligible to continue your health, dental, and vision coverage through age 64, if you are retired and receiving monthly payments from the Florida Retirement System (FRS). Enrollment in the FRS Investment Plan may limit your eligibility to continue health benefits upon retirement. Please refer to School Board Policy 6Gx50-3.79 for more information.
Starting at age 65 you can continue the medical, dental and vision plan through The Florida School Retiree Benefits Consortium (FSRBC).

When do my benefits end as an active employee?
For those employees on a 12-month contract, your benefits as an active employee will end on the last day of the month in which you retire. If your position was less than a 12-month contract and you worked through the end of your contract period, your benefits will continue through July 31. Please note: If you are eligible for Medicare upon retirement, Medicare will become the primary payer on the first of the month following your last day of work. After you enrolled in Medicare Part A and B, FSRBC will administer all post-65 Retiree benefits for The School District of Palm Beach County. This means all retirees, age 65 or over, will now enroll in benefits coverage and pay their monthly premiums directly through the FSRBC program.

How much do I have to pay to continue my benefits and how do I make those payments?

You will have two payment options:
1. Payment through the Florida Retirement System (FRS).
2. Direct payment via (ACH Debit) from a Savings or a Checking account.

Can I make changes to my benefits after I retire?

Please note: Once you drop an area of coverage, you will not be eligible to enroll in that area of coverage at any time in the future. As a retiree, you can terminate your benefits at any time during the year. You may send a letter with your request via email ana.swanberg@palmbeachschools.org or via fax to (561) 434-8103.

The FRS Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS) is a subsidy payment to retired members or a qualified beneficiary to assist in the payment of health insurance costs. The HIS is not a health insurance policy. Eligible retirees or beneficiaries will receive $7.50 per month for each year of service credit earned once the normal retirement date is reached. The payment is at least $60 but not more than $225 per month. The subsidy payment is contingent upon continued approval of the Florida Legislature.
You will receive the Subsidy form from FRS payroll after you have received your first pension check. -
