Indoor-Air Quality (IAQ)
Indoor-Air Quality (IAQ)
The District's Environmental and Conservation Services Department (ECS) has a comprehensive, national award-winning program for maintaining and improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) conditions in school and support facilities. ECS created an IAQ assessment team to address indoor-air quality complaints and perform environmental remediation projects. The program is modeled on the U.S. EPA's Tools for Schools Program and the American Industrial Hygienist Association industry guidelines and recommendations. ECS performs 800+ assessments and 500+ IAQ-related projects each year under the supervision of certified, in-house indoor-air quality professionals. The program supports the following policies:
School Board Policy 7.195: Indoor Air Quality, which identifies best practices for healthy classrooms and productive workspaces across the District.
School Board Policy 7.19: Tobacco Free Environment, which maintains the District as tobacco-free in all District buildings, facilities or on school grounds and property.
School Board Policy 7.24: Animals on District Property, which states requirements for animals on District facilities. -

Asthma Awareness and Prevention
Asthma Awareness and Prevention
ECS partnered with the American Lung Association to develop the Asthma-Friendly SchoolsProgram, which certified schools that participated and completed the program. Asthma triggers were identified and ECS adapted its inspections to include Asthma triggers and corrective actions. ECS developed a guide for teachers that includes information about how schools can support an asthma-friendly environment.
