Visual Arts

  • The emerging Visual Arts program challenges its students to use and develop their talents through rigorous and challenging projects. Our program currently focuses primarily on the two-dimensional arts: drawing, painting, printmaking, and digital photography. Our Fine Art Craft Studio also offers students the opportunity to explore their creativity through fiber arts and fashion design. Academy students will be required to keep sketchbooks while developing portfolios which will serve to document their artistic growth and showcase skills that take them to the next stages of their education or into their professional careers.

The central philosophy of the Visual Arts Academy is that to truly learn a discipline, one must learn by doing and not just study it in a classroom. Our visual arts program combines in-class lectures to familiarize students with the fundamentals of their discipline, instructor-supervised workshops to ensure students are comfortable with their equipment and independent projects that allow students to bring their ideas to life.

The Visual Arts Academy is also an integral part of the Go Green initiative and has initiated designing clothing utilizing plant dyes, recycled newspapers and magazines. This encourages students to create cultures of sustainability and learning that will empower them to create a more sustainable future.
