Entrepreneur, Community Activist are just a few words to describe Robert Mitchell, a graduate in the Class of 1997. Owner of Country Boy Catering business, Robert seeks to provide his clients with a delectable experience they won’t soon forget. He has hosted events for Warner Bros Studios, the Cast of Queen Sugar, Bravo’s The Tankards (Thicker Than Water), Black Panther Leader Angela Davis & Trey Songz. Because of his high energy & charm, he was selected as a contestant on Let’s Make A Deal twice. Robert grew up in Belle Glade. He lived behind Billy’s Market on 5th Street, in the Village, on Covenant Drive (Doc Hill) & behind McDonald’s on 3rd Street. Each time his family moved, it presented new challenges; however, he was determined to succeed. While attending a Summer band camp at FAMU, he won the “Best Drum Major” award. During his senior year of high school, he was selected by his peers, to serve as the Head Drum Major. While attending FAMU, he earned a leading role in Raisin in the Sun & earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Education. Earning his degree was a huge task considering he had to work various jobs to help cover college expenses. His hard work didn’t go unnoticed. He received several recognitions: top claims taker, top salesman, & top in customer service. Growing up in the Glades reminds him of an old saying, “it’s not what they call you, it’s what you answer to. You are in control of your destiny despite any obstacles or people’s expectations or limits for your success.” His Glades Central experience taught him that working hard is most essential to developing his potential. Being a band member & drum major gave him a great one-on-one lesson on how having teachers who care, can add to the self-esteem & tenacity of a student with potential. Robert’s advice for current students is, “always know that you are in control of your narrative. It’s not how you start but how you finish. Also, you have the power to highlight the real perception of what being from the Muck is, & that is a good thing. The opposite does exist; however, strive for excellence & keep God first & the world is yours!” Robert Mitchell is Building his Brand in Customer Service & he is a #GCRaiderWhoRepresents.
