The District recognizes that students and staff are facing increasing health and safety issues that can affect their overall wellness, ability to learn and perform, and ability to be productive citizens of our society. In an effort to assist in addressing these issues, the District has a “Wellness Promotion Policy” (2.035). This policy incorporates the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child” (WSCC) model. The District is committed to providing a school environment that enhances learning and development of lifelong wellness practices and promotes and protects the overall well-being of all students and staff. Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035).

Each school is required to complete a comprehensive Wellness Promotion Policy 2.035 - School Assessment, to provide the District with information and progress related to wellness. In addition, we have created a folder with all the FY23 School Assessment Responses individually per school.

The WSCC model combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach and the whole child framework by:

    • Responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
    • Incorporating the components of a coordinated school health program around the tenets of a whole-child approach to education.
    • Providing a framework to address the symbiotic relationship between learning and health.

In our District, the Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035) is overseen by the School Food Service Department. Since the adoption of this Policy on May 31, 2006, there have been five additional revisions to this Policy. From this Policy, a Wellness Promotion Task Force (WPTF) was created and meets three times a year with District and Community Stakeholders.
