National Literacy Week
We celebrate National Literacy Week by inviting special guests to read to our students, engaging students in school wide reading motivation activities. This year's theme was "Book Your Trip -Adventure Awaits". Every day, students participate in various fun-filled activities that create excitement for reading. We had a contest for classrooms to guess the "Mystery Readers"; students researched various places to visit around the world; dressed like tourists; read aloud with buddies; and were able to exchange books and take home a new book to read.
Read Across America Celebration
The Read Across America Celebration is for all kindergarten and first grade students and is one of the most exciting literacy events for our students. The students participate in an assembly that consists of storybook characters, such as The Cat in the Hat, and a storyteller narrator and breakfast. The show opens up with a lot of excitement, characters, and students performing.
BAM Author In Residence Program
During BAM, we are so excited to invite various authors to share his/her books, achievements and learning with our students. Our students had the opportunity to learn about the author, Camille Andros, and her writing process, the joys of writing and researching, and most importantly, the love of reading.
Storybook Character Parade
Our Storybook Character Parade allows students to dress like their favorite storybook characters. The students parade around the school and enjoy learning about various characters and vocabulary words. Our storybook characters come to life to demonstrate the meaning of words and their role in the stories they have chosen.
