The School Counseling Department of Park Vista Community High School is committed to building bridges for students of all backgrounds, embracing the notion that every student can engage in an advanced curriculum. We help students connect on our equity-embedded campus with each other and with adults who can support them. We work to support students in achieving their fullest potential toward college and career readiness, cultivating the ability to practice healthy behaviors, and learning the skills required to establish positive relationships. Rising Seniors - Start Working on Your College Applications!
We recommend that you begin applying to 4-year colleges and universities as soon as each school begins accepting applications (usually at the beginning of August) but certainly by October 31, 2024. Please understand that some private or out-of-state universities may have sooner deadlines for early action or early decision. If you are waiting to take/retake SAT or ACT or waiting until after 1st semester of your senior year to see if your GPA increases, you are risking missing the advantages of applying early, especially to rolling admission schools. If your GPA and test scores are close, you will have a chance to be deferred by the college. Need help with the process? Check out our College Admissions Handbook.

Cambridge AICE Information
What is The University of Cambridge AICE Program?
The University of Cambridge AICE program is an international, pre-university program developed by the University of Cambridge in England. AICE examinations have been offered for over 50 years in more than 150 countries. AICE was first offered in the US in 1995, and officially adopted in Florida in 2001. PVCHS became an official Centre in August of 2010 as an avenue for Park Vista students to expand learning opportunities to increase learning for our global society. The AICE Diploma is awarded based on competence in seven subjects; however, students can take and be awarded for individual subjects. This advanced curriculum is designed as preparation for college and university programs.
What are universities saying about AICE?
Our study found that AICE program graduates attending the University of Florida had an average end-of-freshman year GPA of 3.46 whereas students coming from other acceleration mechanisms such as Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) had an average GPA of 3.12 and 3.10 respectively.
-Bill Kolb (Former director of admissions at UF)
One of the things we find with students who have studied Cambridge International is that they have a real depth of understanding of the subject matter that they have had classes in, and a real engagement with it. Those are some of the things that we find really help our students succeed once they get to our campus.
-Stuart Schmill, Dean of Admissions, MIT
The depth of knowledge displayed by the best AICE students makes them prime targets for America’s Ivy League universities.
