The following classes are offered in our Pre-Engineering program:
STEM/Digital Design and Modeling
This course offers an innovative approach to learning in which students use problem solving skills to tackle hands-on learning activities. This is an APB (Activity-Project-Problem Based) instructional course. During this class, students will constantly be collaborating in teams to work through problems as engineers and designers would. They will complete design challenges while simultaneously being exposed to the tools and software that they will need to complete them. The intent of this course is to not only foster independent, lifelong learners but also to improve critical thinking skills and propel students toward a successful career in the STEM fields. This class is also the introductory Project Lead the Way and teaches engineering skills that will be used in future PLTW courses.Coding Fundamentals - Project Lead the Way Edition
Get ready to use your creativity to code microcontrollers to perform a variety of real-world tasks, such as developing a security system, designing wearable technology, and creating interactive art! Within this class, students will work with Fusion 360. Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D modeling, CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB software platform for product design and manufacturing. Projects focus on:
Designing and engineering products to ensure aesthetics, form, fit, and function.
Reducing the impact of design, engineering, and changes to ensure manufacturability with simulation and generative design tools.
Directly editing existing features or model fixtures with the only truly integrated CAD + CAM software tool.Green Architecture
Today’s students have grown up in an age of “green” choices. In this unit, students learn how to apply this concept to the fields of architecture and construction by exploring dimensioning, measuring, and architectural sustainability as they design affordable housing units using Autodesk’s® 3D architectural design software. We go beyond the software in applying examples and problem solving along with traditional approaches to architecture to develop a fully rounded approach to solving real-world problems.Exploring Aerospace Technology
Welcome to Exploring Aerospace Technology. This is an APB (Activity-Project-Problem Based) course. In this course students apply physics concepts to design, prototype and test models to learn about the science of flight. Students work in teams to study real-world aerospace challenges including; the four forces of flight, Bernoulli’s Principle, aircraft design, propulsion systems, flight navigation, fuel consumption and planning a mission to Mars. This course is designed to encourage students to become lifelong learners and to spark an interest in aerospace engineering.
