The Florida Department of Education requires 15 additional semester hours of course credit to add an Endorsement in Gifted Education to a teaching certificate. The School District of Palm Beach County offers the necessary courses for endorsement in the form of five, 10-week module courses.
There is no course fee for teachers employed by the District. There is a $300 fee per course for charter school employees seeking to earn the credits toward the Gifted Endorsement.
The five required courses are each worth 60 in-service points and include the following course titles:
• Module 1: Nature and Needs of Gifted Students
• Module 2: Theory and Development of Creativity for the Gifted
• Module 3: Guidance and Counseling of Gifted Students
• Module 4: Education of Special Populations of Gifted Students
• Module 5: Curriculum Development for the Gifted
To enroll in the gifted endorsement courses:
Login to PeopleSoft > My eLearning > Find Learning > Search keyword "Gifted" for the appropriate course > Enroll. Once enrolled in the course, participants must launch the course for eCampus via the link provided in eLearning. Please be advised that all enrollment must be approved by the Gifted Program Planner and is contingent on the amount of spaces available in that course.
Course enrollment and instruction schedule:
Session 1 – Fall: Enrollment opens August 29, 2022. Classes begin September 12 and end November 20.
Session 2 – Winter: Enrollment opens November 28, 2022. Classes begin December 12 and end February 19.
Session 3 – Spring: Enrollment opens February 13, 2023. Classes begin March 13 and end May 21.
Session 4 – Summer: Enrollment opens May 29, 2023. Classes begin June 12 and end August 20.
