Before and Afterschool Programming

  • Greetings Cougar Parents!!!

The Congress Middle School Before / Afterschool Program, in partnership with local community organizations, will provide students with a safe before / afterschool environment where students can participate in developmentally appropriate activities that capture and hold their interests. The program will provide opportunities for student enrichment and academic improvements through recreational activities, homework assistance and tutoring, as well as social skills development including conflict resolution and team building. Through meaningful participation in the before/after school activities, students will develop positive relationships with adults and each other and enhance their acclimation to school life to lead them to acquiring lifelong skills.

The program will begin on Monday, September 9, 2024 and is expected to conclude the week of May 16, 2025, budget permitting. It consists of a three-prong approach which includes: academics, health & wellness, and character building. The morning care program runs Monday through Friday, except on the week of Thanksgiving (afterschool program included). The afterschool program runs Monday through Thursday. Both the morning and aftercare program will be closed during the first week of state assessment testing (dates are forthcoming). Applications for Before / Afterschool are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The Before / Afterschool Program is currently a FREE program for our students. The program is staffed by current Congress teachers and/or staff members.

Before school programming starts at 7:45 AM; students must arrive no later than 8:15 AM in order to be admitted. Afterschool programming begins at 4:15 PM and finishes promptly at 5:45 PM. To keep it a free program, students must be picked up no later than 5:50 PM. Failure to adhere to pick-up time will result in an automatic dismissal from the program. The afterschool program is an extension of regular school hours. For students to get along well and enjoy quality time, the same procedures and guidelines for behavior apply. After two referrals, the student will be dismissed from the program. Fighting, bullying, stealing, damage to school property or any other serious offense will result in students' immediate dismissal from the program. Applications may only be submitted online through Eleyo.

Note: There is a mandatory academic component filtered into the program each day. If a student refuses, they will be dismissed from the program. STUDENTS MUST HAVE ID BADGES IN ORDER TO ATTEND! Acknowledgment of rules must be completed prior to your child(ren) beginning.
