Law Academy

The American History and Law Academy promotes the study and appreciation of American history and the legal framework that has helped to define it. It is a program designed to promote knowledge and appreciation of American political, cultural, and legal foundations and develop student’s critical thinking skills.
Students in the American History and Law Academy have the opportunity to:- Learn how to draft and debate congressional legislation, write a legal brief, and draft appellate briefs
- Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Participate in mock trials
- Participate in moot court arguments
- Compete in the National History Day Competition at the school, district, and state level
- Obtain an internship during second semester senior year
- Compete in the county level Mock Trial competition
- Prepare and participate in Ethics Bowl competition
- Join many Law and History related clubs including, but not limited to, Model UN, Debate, Mock Trial, and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society
*A GPA of 2.5 is required for eligibility when applying
Law Academy students take one academy elective per year and students take an additional history course to meet diploma requirements:
- Comprehensive Law Honors
- AICE AS Thinking Skills 1
- AP Government/AP Comparative Government
- International Relations/ Internship Honors
