Pre-Medical Sciences

The Pre–Medical Sciences program is a three–year preparatory honors program for middle school students that emphasizes science, math, and language skills while preparing students to be highly competitive in the medical field. The courses offered include Orientation to Health Occupations, Exploration of Health Science Professions & Career Planning, and Medical Skills and Services. In the School District of Palm Beach County, all medical courses provide local honors credit.
Students in the academy will learn critical thinking, problem solving, research, collaboration, life skills, inquiry, analyzing data, hands-on learning, CPR Certification, and will have access to our simulated onsite medical lab. For more information, please contact Edith Sims-Allen.
6th Grade

Health Occupations
This is a full-year course that assists students in making informed decisions about their future academic and occupational goals regarding careers in the Health Science career cluster. The introductory course provides an exploration of various career paths, occupational hazards, educational requirements, proper health practices and medical terminology. Students will gain knowledge in the multiple facets of wellness and disease, and learn to perform basic health care skills. Some of the learning experiences include: laboratory and virtual dissections, preparing written medical reports and records, problem solving, collaborative group projects and applying basic safety requirements.
7th Grade

Explorations of Health Occupations and Career Planning
This is a full-year course that exposes the students to advanced scientific and laboratory techniques related to a career in the medical and allied health fields. Students will have the opportunity to experience exploration of skills needed in medical careers through hands-on activities, investigations and laboratory assignments. At the end of the course, they will be able to demonstrate an understanding and the importance of legal and ethical behavior related to health care while applying the scientific principles of the health care field to their key learning.
8th Grade

Medical Skills and Services
This is a full-year course that exposes students to further advanced scientific and laboratory techniques related to a career in the medical and allied health fields. Students will have the opportunity to experience exploration of skills needed through hands-on activities, investigations, laboratory assignments, certification and internships. Advanced knowledge of responsible consumer decision making regarding health screening and health care management, disease and illness diagnosis, symptoms and care are included in this high school credit course.
