Construction Academy

  • Construction ClassThe Construction Academy for high school students provides comprehensive hands-on training to equip students with the skills needed for a successful career in the construction industry. 

    This program focuses on transferable skills and stresses the understanding of all aspects of the building construction industry. Academy participants will have the opportunity to earn OSHA and NCCER Industry Certifications.

    • Six (6) course sequences in Building Trades and Construction Technology completed within three years.
    • Year four of the program can consist of work-based experience and/or dual enrollment for college credit.
    • Students in grades 9-12 attend for two hours per day, five days per week.
    • Concepts taught include: applying construction techniques, reading plans and specifications, and developing trade skills in carpentry, masonry, electricity, plumbing, and air conditioning.
    • Industry certifications that can be earned:
      • OSHA 10-hour Safety.
      • NCCER Core Curriculum, NCCER Carpentry 1, NCCER Carpentry 2, or NCCER Plumbing 1 (choice).
    • Upon completion, can be employed as a General Maintenance and Repair Worker or Helper. Entry into an apprenticeship program, military, or college are viable options as well.

Mechatronics Academy

  • Mechatronics CarMechatronics offers high school students versatile skills in mechanics, electronics, and computer programming, providing a competitive edge in industries such as robotics, automation, and manufacturing.

    The program at WTEC places a heavy emphasis on hands-on manufacturing skills & robotics production. As you matriculate through this program you will have opportunities to earn up to four industry certifications – Pre-Engineering, Robotics, MSSC Certified Production Technician (MSSC-CPT), and Mechatronics Fitter. Students that earn the MSSC-CPT industry certification should be eligible for 15 credit hours towards the Florida Engineering Technology A.S./A.A.S. where the program is offered in the state.

    • Six (6) to eight (8) course sequence in Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing completed within four years.
    • Year four of the program can consist of capstone project, work-based experience and or dual enrollment for college credit.
    • Students in grades 9-12 attend for two hours per day, five days per week.
    • Concepts taught include: study of automation technology, its application in manufacturing, engineering and robotics, safety, machines, instruments, materials, processes and systems in business and industry.
    • Industry certifications that can be earned:
      • OSHA 10-hour Safety.
      • REC Foundation Pre-Engineering and REC Foundation Robotics.
      • MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT)**
    • Upon completion, can be employed as a General Utility Worker or Helper. Entry into an apprenticeship program, military, or college are viable options as well.

    **Guarantees the minimum award of course credits or a block of credit toward Engineering Technology AS program is 15 hours of credit; other programs may be articulated.
