Sonia Cabrera-Lopez Biography & Presentation

Ms. Cabrera-Lopez is a member of the Mayan-Mam community of the Western Highlands of Guatemala. She has been with the Department of Multicultural Education since 1999. In her current role as Mayan-Mam language interpreter, community liaison, and professional development presenter, Ms. Cabrera Lopez, brings a wealth of information and resources to share with all participants. In addition to providing professional development to teachers, administrators and support staff, Ms. Cabrera Lopez has also provided training for the Children Services Council and the Health Department of Palm Beach County regarding the Mayan diaspora in Palm Beach County, specifically in areas of culture and languages. As a distinguished member of the Mayan community, Ms. Cabrera Lopez brings her personal experiences as a former ELL student, her success, and struggles to every presentation allowing participants to engage and learn about her culture.
