Elementary students who reside within two (2) miles of their assigned school may receive PBCSD school bus transportation if they do not have a pedestrian route from their home to  that is free of hazards as defined by FS 1006.23. However, according to School Board policy 5.186, riding the school bus is a privilege  a right. This privilege can be denied for recurring unacceptable behavior. In order to ensure the safety of your child and others, it is important that your child follows the rules. Please discuss the following school bus rules with your child:

    • Students must remain seated at all times
    • Students must not throw any items in the bus or from the bus
    • Students must keep all parts of their body inside the bus at all times
    • Students must use an appropriate voice level (no yelling)
    • Students must refrain from indecent conduct (e.g., harassment, or loud, disruptive or profane language)
    • Students must keep their hands, feet, and objects to themselves and must not exhibit any physical aggression (e.g., fighting, bullying, touching, hitting)
    • Students must refrain from acts of vandalism

The privilege of riding the school bus may be denied to any student who does not conduct himself/herself in a safe and orderly fashion in accordance with School Board Policy 5.1812, Operational Procedures for Incidents and Actions for Elementary Students. School bus drivers and administration will determine what is safe and orderly.  The bus driver reserves the right to assign seating for any student(s) that are disruptive in any way. All students should assume they are being videotaped while riding a bus. These tapes may be used for disciplinary purposes or referral to law enforcement.

Please keep one copy of this letter for your reference and return the signed copy.
I have reviewed the rules with my child for riding the school bus. I understand that if my child violates the rules mentioned above, it may result in suspension from the bus, being permanently removed from riding the bus, and/or suspension from school.
