Language Arts Tutoring provides valuable supplement instruction in reading strategies and writing skills. It is available Tuesday mornings with Ms. Sall from 7:45-8:45 a.m. in Room 179 and on Monday and Wednesday afternoons with Mrs. DeTata from 4:15-5:15 p.m. in Room 195.
The Social Studies Academic Games include Presidents, a Current Event, and a Theme, which this year, is the History of Rock and Roll. These tournaments require players to respond to questions or clues that are read aloud to all competitors. A player’s expertise in the game’s subject matter is tested but so is their confidence level in their responses. Students must develop strategies involving when to answer and how much to wager per response. Practices for these games begin December 4th on Thursday mornings from 8-8:45 a.m. in Ms. Sall's Room 179. Competitions begin on January 16th and end February 13th.
The Academic Games Leagues of America (AGLOA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to developing “Thinking Kids” of character, integrity, and excellence. Students who excel academically have a chance to compete and be rewarded for their accomplishments at the local, state, and national levels. Language Arts Academic Games include Propaganda and LinguiSHTIK. While playing Propaganda, students learn to recognize techniques of persuasion that are often used by advertisers, politicians, editorial writers, and in everyday conversations. LinguiSHTIK challenges players to improve their grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills. Competitions for Academic Games begin October 24th and end November 28th.
The Math Academic Games is a club that competes with other middle schools in the district by playing a math game. The game consists of a playing mat and 24 cubes. Each cube contains four digits and two operation signs. A numerical Goal is set and players must form a Solution equal to the Goal from the 24 cubes rolled (the Resources).
