Everglades Essentials

  • At Everglades Elementary we pride ourselves on following our Essentials to create a safe, kind, inclusive, and respectful campus for all.

    Manners

    • When responding to adults, you must answer “yes ma'am” or “no, sir.”
    • Make eye contact when someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times.
    • If someone in the class wins a game, we will congratulate that person.
    • During discussions, respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas.
    • If you win or do well at something, do not brag. If you lose, do not show anger.
    • Cover your mouth when you sneeze, cough, or burp. Afterward, you should say, “Excuse me.”
    • Do not smack your lips, tsk, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.
    • Always say thank you when you are given something. Do not insult the gift or the giver.

    Procedures

    • Do not ask for a reward/incentive. If you ask for recognition, none will be given.
    • You must complete your homework every day. Lack of work will not be tolerated.
    • You will make every effort to be as organized as possible.
    • Follow along when we read together in class. When asked to read, you must be prepared.
    • When a substitute teacher is present, all class rules still apply.

    Cleanliness

    • Keep yourself and the bathroom clean and germ-free.
    • After you eat, clean up after yourself.
    • If someone drops something, pick it up and hand it back to them. If there is trash within or around our school, pick it up!

    Character

    • If you approach a door and someone is following you, hold the door. The second student in line is always the door holder.
    • If someone bumps into you, even if it was not your fault, say “Excuse me.”
    • Transitions will be swift, quick, and orderly.
    • When walking in line, keep your arms at your sides and move quietly; no cutting!
    • If any child in the school is bothering you, let me know. Do not bully others or speak negatively of other students. Doing so will bring severe consequences.
    • Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness.
    • No matter the circumstances, always be honest. When you are guilty, honesty is your best hope for leniency.
    • Accept that you are going to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.
    • Stand up for what you believe in and be the best person you can be.
