Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do I have to apply if Woodlands is my home school?
You should apply for Culinary, IT, Medical, and Cambridge Academies through the Choice application. You can participate in Cambridge instruction without the Choice Lottery if you are zoned for Woodlands, because we are a Cambridge International School.
-
What is the difference between Cambridge Academy and Cambridge classes (non-academy)?
The benefit to applying for the Cambridge Academy is for families that live out of boundary, because they have an opportunity to get a seat at Woodlands, especially if their elective preference is other than IT, Culinary, and Medical. Global Perspectives elective option is only for those who applied through Choice lottery.
-
Can I participate in more than one academy?
You can participate in two academies if space permits, which uses both choices on application. Submit the Google Form application found on our web page.
Best strategy….
If you’re zoned for Woodlands, choose elective option as first choice, before Cambridge.
If you’re not zoned for Woodlands, it depends on your priority. For best chances for acceptance to Woodlands, choose Cambridge as first choice. Choose elective option as first choice if that program is your priority. -
What is the difference between Cambridge and Gifted?
Gifted students will be placed in our Gifted and/or Accelerated Math and Accelerated Science classes that are taught by Cambridge teachers. All gifted students will be Cambridge students.
-
Medical Academy is not showing up on my list!
Pre-Medical is an in-house program which will only appear on the list if you live within attendance boundaries.
-
Can I change my application after I submitted it?
You are allowed to submit changes before the deadline.
-
Will I get a bus if I'm a Choice student?
Bus stops will only be available within the Choice Transportation Zone for each school and additional stops will not be created.
The School Board shall provide transportation for all students who are enrolled in Choice schools and programs who reside more than two miles from the choice school or program, and who reside within a designated choice transportation zone.
Bus stops for Choice schools or programs may be limited and may not be within walking distance of a student’s home. Choice bus routes average a longer ride time than routes to a zoned school.
Parents should visit the Transportation Bus registration website for more information.
Visit “Register Your Ride” through the student portal in August.
