AS Physics
Instructor: Ms. Jacqueline Mylan
Pre-Requisites: Algebra 2, taken or currently in Pre-Calculus
AICE Physics develops a set of transferable skills including handling data, practical problem-solving, and applying scientific method. Learners develop relevant attitudes, such as concern for accuracy and precision, objectivity, integrity, inquiry, initiative and inventiveness. They acquire the essential scientific skills required for progression to further studies or employment

AS Art & Design: Ceramics
Instructor: Ms. Sarah Johnson
AICE Art & Design is a self-motivated, creative, artistic discovery course. Students will embark on an intensive, artistic process and improve and invent their own artwork. Students learn about visual perception and aesthetic experience and the ways in which art and design creates a language of its own. Most of the work for this course is studio-based so that students can develop their abilities of observation and analysis of the visual world, sensitivity, skill, personal expression, and imagination. Outside reading, thinking, and observing will be necessary. Students also learn how to relate their skills to an enhanced knowledge of their own cultures, past and present; as well as develop an appreciation of practical design problems. Students must document the various stages of their idea evolution and production methods.

AS Drama
Instructor: Mr. Ryan Lee
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Recommendation from Mr. Lee
Learners following the Cambridge International AS Level Drama will explore a range of practical and theoretical approaches to drama from script to performance. The course encourages students to develop the ability to apply practical skills effectively and to analyse and evaluate both their own work and the work of others. The course provides opportunities for learners to develop their skills as theatrical practitioners, engaging with performance texts in practical and creative ways. It fosters engagement with, and enjoyment of, the study of a wide range of theatrical styles and genres. Through their study, learners will develop as skilled, well-informed, reflective practitioners, able to research ideas and create and interpret meaning through drama.

AS Chemistry

Prerequisite: Algebra 1, Geometry, Chemistry Honors
Cambridge International AS Level Chemistry develops a set of transferable skills including handling data, practical problem-solving and applying the scientific method. They acquire the essential scientific skills required for progression to further studies or employment.

AS English Language

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: AS General Paper
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the semantic, structural, and rhetorical resources of the English language as they relate to the principles of effective writing. The course also provides a variety of writing opportunities calling for the use of different styles and tones.

AS Environmental Management
Instructor: Mrs. Triciana Gray
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Biology
Pre or Corequisite: Chemistry
Environmental management is concerned with both local and global issues and with the various ways in which societies, governments and economic activity (industry, agriculture and urban areas) use, misuse and attempt to manage both local and global environments. Whilst environmental management can often be presented in a negative light by emphasizing pollution, exploitation and misuse, it is important to give recognition to the positive ways in which we manage our environment. Thus issues such as global warming, industrial pollution and the impact of rapid population growth need to be balanced with others like the creation of National Parks, sensitive urban design and sustainable management/development. The syllabus reflects a contemporary concern with sustainable management. Through their study of environmental management, it is hoped that candidates will learn to appreciate that the exploitation of the environment.

AICE General Paper is multi-disciplinary, its subject matter drawn from across the curriculum. The syllabus encourages in candidates the ability to make cross-curricular links; to develop a maturity of thought appropriate to students at this level; and to achieve an understanding and usage of the English language which enables them to express arguments, ideas and opinions in a reflective and academic manner.

AS Global Perspectives (Required for AICE Diploma)

Pre or Corequisite: AS English Language
Cambridge International AS Level AICE Global Perspectives prepares learners for positive engagement with our rapidly changing world. Learners broaden their outlook through the critical analysis of - and reflection on - issues of global significance. The Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives syllabus is based on skills rather than on specific content. Learners develop research, thinking, reasoning and communication skills by following an approach to analyzing and evaluating arguments and perspectives called the Critical Path. The skills gained through study of Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives enable students to meet the demands of twenty-first century learning and make a successful transition to study in higher education.

AS History: International History

The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research. Students learn about cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference, and use historical evidence as part of their studies. This course focuses on AICE History’s International Option.

AS and A Level History: US
Instructor: Mrs. Elizabeth Seemann and Mr. Chet Weinstein
Grade Level: 11
Prerequisite: AS International History/Teacher Recommendation
The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research. Students learn about cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference, and use historical evidence as part of their studies. This course focuses on AICE History’s American Option.

AS Literature in English
Instructor: Mrs. Marcie Hagan, Mrs. Kristina Mull and Mr. James Crimmins
Grade Level: 11 and 12
Prerequisite: AS General Paper and AS English Language
AICE English Literature prepares students for lifelong literacy appreciation and helps them develop important literacy skills in writing, argument development, research and information management, and text analysis. Course themes include imaginative literature, form, structure, genre, conventions, context, audience and readership, language and style, and interpretation.

AS & A Marine Science
Instructor: Mrs. Shawna Ahmad and Ms. Johanna Hunston
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Biology
AICE Marine Science provides a coherent and stimulating introduction to the science of the marine environment. The content of the AS part of the course concentrates on the scientific study of the sea and its ecosystems, while the A Level part of the course concentrates on human activities that depend on the sea and have an impact on it. A and AS Level Marine Science can form part of an ideal subject combination for students who want to study Marine Biology or Environmental Science at university or to follow a career in shipping, fisheries, tourism or aquaculture.

AS & A Mathematics
Instructor: Mrs. Kimberly Collado
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Algebra 2
AICE Mathematics 1 is designed to provide accelerated students with a strong foundation of pre-calculus and calculus as well as statistics topics. They will develop an understanding of mathematical principles and an appreciation of mathematics as a logical and coherent subject. AICE Mathematics 1 will prepare students to take two Cambridge exams. AICE Mathematics 2 is a continuation of the skills taught in AICE Mathematics 1 and topics/skills will be built upon.

AS & A Media Studies
Instructor: Mrs. Kristina Mull
Grade Level: 9-12
AS Media Studies offers learners the chance to develop an understanding and appreciation of the role media plays in our everyday lives. The course enables students to take a hands-on approach to the subject by creating through film and print media. Students will create their own media products from planning through to execution. Students also learn to analyze existing media such as film, print, video games, music, and their surrounding industries.
