The Seminole Ridge High School TV Production Academy is a four-year program that is designed for students interested in careers in the broadcasting industry. Students work individually and in teams on ENG equipment, cameras, and microphones in a state-of-the-art production facility. Students produce a daily live newscast, a bimonthly show, and participate in local, state, and national competitions. Academy curriculum prepares students to earn industry certification in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Course Sequence
9th Grade: Digital Video Technology 1 Students learn the fundamentals of the TV Production process, camera operation & composition, sound for television, television graphics, nonlinear editing, lighting and staging. This is a hands-on, equipment-intensive course. Students will produce and direct projects including a Commercial, Public Service Announcement, Short Film, Movie Trailer and Music Video.
10th Grade: Digital Video Technology 2 Responsible for producing the daily morning newscast: WSRH News which features anchors at the news desk, reporters, photojournalists reporting from across campus, weather segment, sports anchor, sports reporter, commercials, and public service announcements.
11th & 12th Grade: Digital Video Technology 3 & 4– Students choose Film track or News (Extra or Sports) –
WSRH FILMS: Students who want to develop their creative storytelling skills through work on short films, music videos, commercials, and public service announcements. Will work in school and out of school on the projects. Many videos are targeted for film festivals and state and national contests. Students will also learn to work as a team as they write, shoot, and edit on deadline.
WSRH EXTRA: This is a student-driven newsmagazine show. Students are expected to bring story ideas, cover stories after school hours and develop a nose for journalism. Students will work with a partner to produce news packages and segments for our show. WSRH Extra is a bi- weekly show which airs on Friday afternoons from 2:30 - 2:45pm.
WSRH SPORTS: This hands-on, equipment-intensive course will require students to work as a team to produce weekly sports highlights and feature packages about our players and coaches. Students will be responsible for covering games at our school and around our county.
