Betsy Smith Biography & Presentation
Betsy Smith is a Resource Teacher/Advocate for high school students with the Migrant Education Program in the Multicultural Department of the Palm Beach County School District.
She is Cuban American and raised in Miami, Florida. She began her career as a school counselor at Miami Beach Senior High School in 1989. She has also worked part-time as director of an afterschool college prep program for teens. As a former ELL and daughter of an agricultural worker, she feels a strong connection to the Migrant Community and the students she serves.
Migrant Students Transforming the Landscape of Education in Palm Beach County
The audience will learn about migrant students and families and how they are transforming the educational landscape in the county. The presenters will also illustrate how the Migrant Education Program is meeting the educational and social needs of migrant students and their families through innovative supplemental educational practices all while valuing the culture and diversity of the migrant population in Palm Beach County.
