This document is provided in response to a request to review education books. To ensure a thorough and equitable evaluation, the multi-step process is outlined below.
For more information or questions about the review process, contact via email the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) Library Media Services at librarymediaservices@palmbeachschools.org.
SDPBC Multi-Step Review Process
- Initial Screening: All submitted books must be screened to determine if they align with the district’s curriculum standards, reading levels, and overall educational goals.
- Academic Review: All submitted books must have favorable reviews by two or more professional sources (e.g. the School Library Journal, Horn Book, Booklist, Association for Library Service to Children, Kirkus, Young Adult Library Services Association, or Children’s Catalog).
- All professional reviews must be completed before submission. (SDPBC does not provide professional academic review services.)
- The consultation of crowd-sourced reviews will be considered.
- Consideration will include titles from state-standard book lists, such as the ELA B.E.S.T. sample texts and the Civic Literacy Reading List.
- Administrative Review: Books that meet the first two steps will undergo a final review by SDPBC staff.
Please allow approximately two weeks for the entire review process.
We understand the importance of timely feedback and strive to complete the review process as efficiently as possible. To expedite the review process, you may send a physical copy of the book to:
SDPBC Library Media Services
1400 N. Florida Mango Road
West Palm Beach, Fl 33409Should you wish to have the book returned, enclose a prepaid return shipping label with the book.
