• STEM Competitions

    Recognizing the critical importance of STEM education in the lives of their students, the School District of Palm Beach County is dedicated to advancing quality STEM education. A variety of STEM-related opportunities for K-12 students are offered by District staff and community partners.

      • SECME

        • SECME (Science, Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Enrichment) strives to increase the pool of students who will be prepared to enter and complete post-secondary studies in STEM fields and create a more diverse and globally competitive workforce. Through team competition, schools engage in multiple categories including: water bottle rockets, mousetrap cars, balsa wood bridges, school banners, generator build, & essay/poem writing.  All District schools, K-12, have the opportunity to engage in all categories at both a school level and District level competition.  Winners at the District level will go on to compete at the state and national level.

      • Regional Science & Engineering Fair

        • The goal of the Science & Engineering Fair is to provide students with an opportunity to investigate the things they are curious about, design and execute their own experiments, practice how scientists and mathematicians do their work, and make choices about disciplines they may want to study in their future. Elementary, middle and high school students have to ability to engage in various levels of competition for the Science & Engineering Fair.  Winners from secondary schools at the regional level have the opportunity to proceed on to the state level competition. Winners at the state level will have the opportunity to compete at the national and international levels of competition. 

      • FIRST LEGO Robotics

        • FIRST LEGO Robotics inspires young people to be science and technology innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills; inspire innovation; and foster well-rounded life abilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  We have 20 District schools involved in some level of participation/competition (K-8) and have now expanded the collaboration with the Cox Science Center to include VPK Classroom Packs to students enrolled in District VPK programs.
